The son of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman has mostly lived outside the Hollywood spotlight, but a recent outing at the World Series made waves.
Now 31, he made a rare public appearance with friends, shedding light on the life he’s crafted away from his celebrated parents.
As photos of Connor began circulating, many reacted with surprise at how successfully he has managed to stay out of the limelight.
Connor Cruise Makes a Rare Appearance at the World Series
Connor attended the fourth game of the World Series on October 27, where the Tampa Bay Rays faced the Milwaukee Brewers. The Rays, having already lost three games, managed to turn the tide and secure a win.
Celebrating with friends at Tropicana Field, Connor shared a group selfie on his Instagram, stepping back into the public eye with the caption: “You have to believe!”

E! News reported on this rare sighting, noting that Connor celebrated the Rays’ victory while they fought to stay in the series. This outing was particularly noteworthy as Connor has spent much of his adult life away from the Hollywood media frenzy surrounding his parents.
On social media, he usually shares glimpses of his fishing trips, golfing, meals with friends, and daily life in Florida. However, this latest photo reignited familiar attention.
Some commented on Connor’s appearance, while others quickly began discussing his relationship with his parents. Interestingly, some were astonished by the simple fact of his existence.

Some Didn’t Even Know Tom and Nicole Had a Son
In an Instagram discussion regarding Connor, reactions ranged from compliments to disbelief. One user stated, “He does look a bit like Tom. He’s a handsome young man.” Another chimed in, “Connor is a good-looking guy.”
Then came the reaction that illustrated how unfamiliar some people are with this branch of the Cruise-Kidman family. “THEY HAVE A SON??? UNBELIEVABLE.” Similar reactions also appeared under another Instagram post.

One commenter remarked, “I had no idea they had a child!!” Yet for longtime fans of Tom and Nicole, Connor has been part of their story for over three decades.
Their parents took great care to shield him and his older sister from the spotlight when they were young. The siblings mostly continued on this path into adulthood.

Tom and Nicole Became Parents Through Adoption
Tom and Nicole met while filming “Days of Thunder” and married in December 1990. Nicole has openly discussed her struggles with fertility during their marriage.
At 23, she suffered an ectopic pregnancy, which was mistakenly referred to as a miscarriage in some press articles at the time. She later clarified that she indeed had a miscarriage toward the end of her marriage with Tom.

The couple turned to adoption to grow their family. They first adopted their daughter Isabella “Bella” Kidman Cruise, born in December 1992. Connor was born in Florida on January 17, 1995, and was also adopted by the couple shortly after his birth.
Nicole has addressed adoption as part of a broader view of motherhood, rejecting the notion that biological motherhood is the only valid form.
She described parenting as creating an emotional bond with a child and taking on the responsibility of raising and guiding them. The family remained united until 2001.

Tom filed for divorce in February of that year, and the separation was finalized in August. After the divorce, Bella and Connor lived with their father in Los Angeles, while Nicole spent most of her time in Australia.
This arrangement fueled speculations for years about Nicole’s relationship with her older children. However, public statements from the family did not always support that narrative of a rift.

The Children Stayed with Tom After the Divorce
Nicole acknowledged that Bella and Connor chose to live with Tom. She also made it clear that she would have preferred to have them with her.

This lack of photographs contributed to rumors about a deteriorating relationship among the family members. Their religious affiliation added a further dimension to the situation. Tom has long been one of Scientology’s most visible celebrity advocates, and Bella and Connor had also been associated with the church.
However, Nicole publicly stated that she respected their choices. She explained that she deliberately avoided talking about Scientology in public since her kids practice that religion.
“I have two children [adopted with Cruise] who are Scientologists—Connor and Isabella—and I completely respect their beliefs,” she said. Nonetheless, public discussions about the family continued.

Reported Claims of Nicole Being Excluded from Connor’s Wedding
In March 2019, The Evening Standard reported allegations that Nicole was not welcome at Connor’s wedding. The newspaper attributed these claims to Radar Online and an unnamed source, claiming it was Tom who made this decision.
“It’s Tom behind all this, and what he wants is law. Tom made the call, and Connor followed suit,” the source stated. Furthermore, the article claimed that Nicole was considered a “suppressive person” by Scientology.

This designation has a very specific meaning within the church. On its official site, Scientology describes a “suppressive person,” or SP, as someone it claims is trying to oppress others.
The church explains that when such a designation applies to someone affiliated with Scientology, that person can be officially labeled as SP so that members understand they should not consort with that person.
The church also notes that such a designation is extremely rare and leads to expulsion from the faith. The wedding article suggested that Nicole’s supposed status within Scientology was one reason she wasn’t invited.
Thus, these are allegations coming from external sources, not verified facts concerning the family’s private life. Nicole’s own public statements about Bella and Connor have always revolved around other subjects.

Nicole Emphasizes the Importance of Loving Her Children
The actress has repeatedly insisted that she prefers to protect her relationship with Bella and Connor rather than dissect it publicly.
In 2018, she said her children were adults capable of making their own decisions. She also noted that she kept them largely private because she needed to protect those relationships.
Nicole described unconditional love as a key element of her role as a mother. She once remarked that she would die for her children, as being their mother was her reason for being. This philosophy is also evident in her work.
When Nicole starred in “Lion,” the film took on special significance for her due to her experience as an adoptive mother. The movie tells the story of an adopted man who searches for his biological family from whom he was separated as a child.
Nicole described “Lion” as a “love letter” to her adopted children. “This film is a love letter to my adopted children…” she stated. She wanted Connor and Bella to know that she supported them.
Nicole also mentioned that she would support them if they decided to seek out their biological mothers. The actress continues to maintain the privacy of those relationships while openly displaying her affection for her kids.

She once explained that the joy she derived from her family outweighed that found elsewhere in her life. This marriage ultimately came to an end as well. Nicole and Urban separated in September 2025, and their divorce was finalized in January 2026.
Connor’s recent presence at the World Series therefore comes at a time when a new chapter in this large family’s story is opening. But it is the 31-year-old himself—rather than one of his famous parents—who is drawing attention this time around.
